Matthias Gorenflos is the founder and director of the Gorenflos Architecten. He was born in Bangkok in 1964 and studied architecture in Karlsruhe and Berlin. After seven years of working for other architectural firms, he opened his own office in Berlin in 1998.
Three encounters have had a decisive influence on Gorenflos’ career: Fritz Haller’s structural design approach, Luigi Snozzi’s insistence on architecture as a social task and Oscar Niemeyer’s power of a new, sensual modernity. Matthias Gorenflos finds inspiration for his architecture in art, literature, travel and music. He looks for the inherent opportunities in every new architectural task and finds specific solutions with their own character. Structural problem solving and sensuality are not contradictory for him.
The first pilot project built in Berlin with Modulina Straw Panels was projected by Gorenflos Architecten in 2024.
